What is coasteering? There are a few different varieties of the sport which you can learn about by clicking here. The variety that we indulge in here at Interactive Travel revolves mainly around jumping into the sea and having fun while doing so! As you will know if you have read through the other pages that detail the activities that we encourage our students to get involved in on our English language courses – we like to combine fun with learning in order to -
a) provide our students with worthwhile experiences that help them to develop their character and to broaden their horizons
b) assist with the learning process of the English language by getting them to focus onĀ fun experiences, rather than the tedium of continual classroom-based language lessons

The activities are not compulsory and no-one is forced to get involved in any activity (or level of activity) that they are not comfortable with. Our main aim (apart from having fun!) is to carefully and gradually encourage the students to push their limits and overcome any irrational fears that they may have. So for coasteering for example, the students are started off at a very basic level (small leaps from low heights) and are encouraged to push their own boundaries with progressively higher leaps.

It’s a team effort, and of course (as with all of our activities) the students are supervised at all times and provided with the necessary safety equipment. Our students have a lot of fun with this activity and of course, they have some great stories to tell when they return home.

Devon provides some of the best coastal areas in the United Kingdom and of course, if the weather is fine, we usually find time for a spot of sunbathing for the students to ‘recharge their batteries’ from all of the adrenaline based activities.

The sea isn’t particularly warm in England (that might be an understatement!) but perhaps that adds to the ‘thrill factor?’ Of course, wearing a wetsuit helps to prevent extremeties from getting too cold.
